Treaty of Waitangi
- The Agency is committed to honouring the intention of the Treaty in its work
practices.
This is demonstrated in an active policy of employing Maori counsellors
as part of the counselling
team.
- Indicating in staff employment contracts, that all pakeha staff attend Treaty
of Waitangi workshops every 2/3 years.
- Ensuring all Maori staff have access to a wide variety of quality training
opportunities both Maori and non-Maori.
- Ensuring all Maori staff have cultural supervision with a Maori supervisor
as well as clinical supervision preferably with a Maori supervisor.
- Maori representation on the executive commitee is an ideal.
Concerning Children
- the rights of children as described in the United Nations Declaration on The
Rights of Children and the Paramountcy Principal of the CYP & F Act
1989 underpins the
approach concerning children.
In particular, children are seen as belonging
within a family/whanau whose responsibility is to protect and nurture that child.
